Rabbit

Welcome to Rabbit Class

Teachers - Mrs L Twentyman & Ms C Price-Lee

This term Reception are jumping into their tractors and heading down to the farm! We have an exciting term lined up with some fantastic activities to really engage the children with the topic. We are beginning the term with some very special eggs being delivered to us to care for and observe as they change into chicks.

Our first key text is the traditional tale ‘Little Red Hen’ which the children will be learning to retell orally and with actions which will support them with their writing. We will be focusing on the story structure and the language. The children will be following instructions to make bread just like the Little Red Hen.

In week four we will be going on a trip to Cattle Country farm park, where the children will be observing the changes that happen in spring and find out about the animals that live on a farm. This leads us to our second key text “What the Ladybird Heard” by Julia Donaldson and us hunting for mini beasts…weather permitting!

Outside our maths learning will be focused around investigating mass and capacity, weighing real life objects and comparing them. Our number focus will be subtraction and the children will be exploring this concept using practical objects and then moving onto to representing this pictorially and in more abstract ways.

You will have spotted the fantastic new play equipment in our playground. The children have absolutely loved exploring it and will continue to do so next term, learning how to use it in a safe manner. Rugby buffs will be delighted to know that we are celebrating the Six Nations and that we have a coach coming to deliver some first class rugby training at the beginning of term. We will also be taking part in a school wide event for Sports Relief – keep an eye on the newsletter for more details.

As always the children will be developing their creative talents and we are looking at colour and texture. Our focus artist will Henri Matisse and children will be looking at his famous painting ‘the Snail’ and will be creating their own Matisse inspired artwork.

Over the coming months you will see our outside area blossom and bloom, please help us support the children observe the plant life cycle by looking at but not picking the flowers.
