Welcome to Fox Class

Teacher - Mrs N Whitelock

This term our topic is called The Rainforest.

In English we will be exploring a variety of non-fiction texts about animals that live in the rainforest. Children will have the opportunity to learn the features of non-chronological reports to enable them to write their own about animals of their choice. The children will be immersing in a range of poetry and learning word features to write their own poems about life in the rainforest. Children will then be delving into rich descriptive language to write their own setting description of the rainforest and descriptions of a chosen rainforest animal.

In Maths we are learning how to compare and sequence intervals of time, tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times. The children will learn the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day. The children will then learn to estimate and measure length and height in any direction (m/cm); mass (kg/g); temperature (°C); capacity (litres/ml) to the nearest appropriate unit, using rulers, scales, thermometers and measuring vessels. The children will learn how to recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p); combine amounts to make a particular value.

In Science the children will be looking at the rainforest as a habitat and look at where they are and what the might find there including naming animals as well as identifying the parts or layers of the rainforest in which they lives.

In Art the children will be looking at colour mixing and new painting techniques to create their own animal and rainforest paintings inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau.
