Welcome to Squirrels Class
This term our topic started with a visit from an elf who had been working for a shoemaker. The elf introduced our new topic and set us a task of designing and making a clay elf.
This term we are learning the story of The Elves and The Shoemaker using talk for write. We have already been practising using a running stitch to join materials and have looked at different shoes. In the next few weeks we will be looking at how shops have changed from long ago and we will compare Fishponds now and in the past.
Our focus in Maths this term is place value and addition and subtraction. We will be reading and writing numbers within 100 and adding and subtracting numbers within 30. You can help at home by reading numbers that you see around you and adding up coins you find in your purse.
At the end of term we will be performing a Christmas production as a year group in the church.
We have all settled well into Squirrel Class with Miss Kersey. This term we have Mrs Foxwell, Mrs Hutchings and Miss Banks working with us.
Our topic this term is called "Over the bridge" and it is based upon the story of The 3 Billy Goats Gruff.
This term we have learnt and retold the story of the Billy Goats Gruff and even had a troll cave outside of our classrooms! We had a visit from the police searching for the troll and we helped them by making wanted posters to find the naughty troll.
Recently we have enjoyed a whole school trip to Westonbirt Arboretum. We walked across the treetop walkway and enjoyed finding out facts and information about different trees from a Forest Ranger.
In Year 1 we have key word spellings sent home to practise reading and writing. It is also really important that we remember to practise our reading every day at home.
